Well what a weekend Australia Day weekend was!
Taylah and I went up to Imbil for my cousins 50th birthday and ended up trapped up there with the flood waters rising so quickly.
trying to find a road out, but the water was rising so quickly
When we tried to leave we ended up trapped in between flooded roads and bridges and looked like we were going to spend the night on the in our cars on the side of the road. Luckily we were not alone my Aunty, Cousin, Sister In law and 2 daughters of my cousins were with us so 7 of us in total and 4 cars. While we were sitting in a bus stop on high ground contemplating our day/night ahead, a car pulled over with the most lovely people inside who offered to take us to their house, so off we went and ended up spending the night with Alan & Joanne, their son, his girlfriend and their nephew his wife and their young daughter. Alan & Joanne not only welcomed us into their home they fed us and gave us a place to sleep. The power went off about an hour or so after we arrived at their home so it was candle light, buckets of water for the toilet, BBQ dinner and lots of chatting with our new friends.
We were all woken around 4am with a fire in the house as one of the candles that was left on so we could find our way to the bathroom throughout the night caught fire, luckily Chris had woken and got to it in time
the lovely Alan, Joanne & their nephew Chris with all 7 of us before leaving their place and some of their furry friends
The next day my one of my other Cousins and her family came to take us to their place as the flood waters had gone down around their place but we still were not able to get out and get home. So we bid farewell to our saviours and headed to my cousins place. We stayed there until around 4pm when her husband Ronald went to see if we could get out and thankfully we could so we bid farewell to Imbil and my cousin and family and headed home.
heading to Ronald & Kathryn's we had to cut the barbed wire fencing so it could be removed from the road
A day later than we had expected but full of thanks for Yasmine for trying to get us out, Alan & Joanne for taking in 7 strangers and making us all feel like part of their family and to Ronald, Kathyrn & Aunty Merle for worrying about us and coming to get us and helping us to get home in time for Taylah's first day of Year 8.
on our way home, quite amazing how quickly the water goes down and the extent of the damage.
I should add we had a fabulous time at my cousin Jeanette's 50th we certainly won't forget her birthday weekend.
Happy Creating Kerrie
